V’s a very interesting girl and she’s accomplished a lot in her 22 years on this earth. Not only does she do music, but she also does wrestling. Fun fact: she’s one of the very few female wrestlers here in the Philippines! If you’re wondering, yes, she’s hella strong. And even more so because she struggles to prove to people that women can wrestle, and actually be nice at the same time. Despite wrestling being a male-dominated sport, she is determined to stay focused and really make the most out of her wrestling career.
It’s actually been yearsss since I last saw Vern. So naturally, we had a lot of catching up to do while we were shooting! We met up at BGC, together with my sister (who did an awesome job with the make up), at around 11:30AM. Ate lunch at Wholesome Table, saw Kim Jones and Mark Nelson, then the make up session commenced. I think I forgot how long it takes to do make up for shoots. Nevertheless, I think it’s a small detail that photographers miss out. So, I had to give them all the time they needed to prepare.
Directing Vern was so easy, maybe because we’re comfortable around each other. I make one gesture, and she immediately follows with a crap ton of poses. I had such a hard time filtering out the photos I was gonna post because all of them were so good!
If you’ve done a shoot with me, you know that I purposely make my models fry under the sun (sorry, friends!), but V was really up for it. Ya’ll know I’m a huge fan of summery sun-kissed skin, intense contrasts, and backlit hair. AND I. GOT. IT. ALL. TODAY. Thank you, Jesus. The weather really cooperated, despite burning our flesh. But the shots I got really made me feel confident in myself again, which I haven’t felt in a long time. It feels nice.
I’m not good, but I’m determined to get better. Just like Vernice. Success is earned, even if we have to walk on broken glass, because at the end it’ll all be worth it.
